- The handover was followed by a market-wide cleaning exercise involving MoMo staff, city officials, traders, and residents, demonstrating unity and commitment to a cleaner, greener Lira.

Wednesday 19th November 2025 – Lira, Uganda: MTN MoMo today received the official handover of Lira Main Market from Lira City leadership in a ceremony that also marked the start of a collaborative effort to clean, enhance, and beautify one of the city’s most important commercial hubs.

Led by His Worship Mayor Sam Atul, the event brought together city clerks, the Resident City Commissioner, MTN MoMo staff, and market vendors in a unified exercise focused on urban cleanliness, community pride, and long-term market improvement.

Following the handover, participants engaged in a city-led market cleaning exercise, reinforcing the shared responsibility to maintain a hygienic and well-organized commercial environment. Speaking during the event, Phillip Odoi, Regional Commercial Head, MTN Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting cities like Lira through initiatives that uplift communities and strengthen local economies.
