Following the handover, participants engaged in a city-led market cleaning exercise, reinforcing the shared responsibility to maintain a hygienic and well-organized commercial environment. The activity reflects the city’s broader vision to transform Lira into a competitive, green, and equitable industrial and commercial hub over the next three decades.

Speaking during the event, Phillip Odoi, Regional Commercial Head, MTN Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting cities like Lira through initiatives that uplift communities and strengthen local economies.

“MTN MoMo is honoured to partner with Lira City on the beautification and renewal of this vital market. Under our Ambition 2025 strategy, we are committed to supporting socioeconomic progress and enabling individuals and businesses to benefit from a modern, connected life. Today’s activity demonstrates that when we work together, we can create cleaner, safer, and more vibrant spaces for everyone,” Odio said.

His Worship Mayor Sam Atul welcomed MTN MoMo’s support, noting that the partnership aligns with the city’s mission to deliver efficient, equitable, and environmentally responsible services for improved livelihoods by 2030.

“The goal of this exercise is to beautify our city, and this partnership with MTN MoMo fits perfectly into that mission. By helping us keep Lira Main Market tidy and beautiful, MTN MoMo is strengthening our efforts to make Lira a modern, competitive, and green city. We look forward to continued collaboration as we serve our community,” he said.

The handover and cleaning exercise underscore MTN MoMo’s commitment to championing environmental stewardship, social inclusion, and long-term urban renewal, in line with MTN’s Ambition 2025 agenda.
