Transfers Chelsea Snatch Pedro From Brighton For £60m

Brighton forward Joao Pedro has agreed to a contract with Chelsea worth up to £60 million.

The 23-year-old will go from Brazil to the United States for a physical and to play for Enzo Maresca’s team at the Club World Cup after agreeing to a seven-year contract with Chelsea.

Since teams can register players between June 27 and July 3, Pedro will be able to play for Chelsea at the event.

With Pedro perhaps available to play against Palmeiras on Friday in Philadelphia, with kickoff at 2am UK time in the early hours of Saturday, that means the Brazil international may make his Chelsea debut in the Club World Cup quarterfinals.

Pedro’s transfer coincides with Brighton’s sell-on clause and Chelsea’s positive relationship with Brighton.

Pedro is regarded by the Blues as a versatile forward who can play both on the front line and as a No. 9.

Pedro was also a target for Newcastle, whose offer of almost £50 million was turned down last week.

Pedro reportedly only desired to play for Chelsea.

Watford will receive 20% of the profit from this transaction after selling Pedro to Brighton for £35 million in 2023.
