Kampala, Uganda – Captain Mike Mukula, the incumbent NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson, has responded to allegations made by Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth, dismissing the claims as baseless and accusing Oboth of greed and political opportunism.
In a sharp rebuttal, Mukula emphasized that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) welcomes healthy competition and encourages broad participation in its elective offices. However, he criticized Oboth for allegedly vying for multiple positions simultaneously, including MP, Minister, and NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson, describing such behavior as unacceptable.
“In NRM, we believe in competition, but Oboth Oboth is competing for everything—MP, Minister, and now Vice Chair. This is greed, and it must stop,” Mukula stated. He further accused Oboth of political hypocrisy, alleging that his actions undermine the party’s unity and values.
In a strongly worded statement, Mukula dismissed Oboth’s claims of tribalism and marginalization, declaring that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is a non-sectarian, all-inclusive, and multi-ethnic party.
“NRM is broad-based—it belongs to all Ugandans, regardless of tribe or religion. We do not entertain divisive politics,” Mukula asserted. “Oboth’s allegations are not only false but also dangerous, meant to create unnecessary tension within our party.”
Confident of victory, Mukula warned that Oboth would face a resounding defeat in the upcoming elections. “This nonsense must stop. Like others before him, Oboth will be defeated in a few weeks,” he declared.
The race for the NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson position has intensified, with multiple candidates, including David Calvin Echodu, Dr. Musa Lumumba, and Buyela Christopher, joining the fray. As the party prepares for the 2026 general elections, the outcome of this contest will be pivotal in shaping its regional strategy.
Mukula’s strong remarks signal a no-holds-barred approach to the race, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown in the coming weeks.
