Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has announced he’ll be parting ways with the Toffees when his contract runs out and it seems Manchester United are leading the pack to snap him up.
After a nine-year stint at Goodison Park, the 28-year-old will be on the market as a free transfer from July 1 when his contract ends, and it’s rumoured that United had a sniff around a deal for him last summer. Ruben Amorim has made strengthening his misfiring attack his main mission this summer, after a dismal Premier League season that saw them setting records for all the wrong reasons.
United are closing in on signing Bryan Mbeumo for a fee in excess of £60million, which would see the Brentford forward become their second summer signing, following Matheus Cunha’s £62.5m move from Wolves. That means two men joining the club who bagged 35 goals between them in the Premier League last season.
United are eager to add some serious firepower to their front line and are desperate to bag a proper centre forward to spearhead their assault. Viktor Gyokeres has long been a target, while Liam Delap snubbed a move to United, opting instead to join their Premier League rivals, Chelsea.
According to the odds from bookies bet365, United are favourites to sign Calvert-Lewin once his contract with Everton expires, reports the Manchester Evening News.
It’s been suggested that Amorim’s team are 5/1 on to secure the bargain transfer, with Newcastle United (6/1) and Leeds United (9/1) lagging behind in the race.
On Sunday, Calvert-Lewin confirmed his exit from Everton as the club prepares for their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on the River Mersey’s banks.
