Drone attack on Kirovske airbase in Crimea destroyed a Russian Pantsir-S1 and three helicopters.
The SBU confirmed a drone attack on the Kirovske airbase in occupied Crimea, which destroyed a Russian Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile system and three helicopters, according to the SBU on June 28.
Fire damage was reported at several key Russian military sites, including aviation facilities, air defense systems, ammunition storage depots, and reconnaissance and strike UAVs. The Ukrainian military’s report indicated the destruction of multiple helicopters, including Mi-8, Mi-26, and Mi-28 models, as well as the Pantsir-S1 self-propelled anti-aircraft missile and gun system.
A secondary detonation occurred at the airfield overnight.
“The SBU is systematically working to reduce the Russian Federation’s ability to conduct air and missile strikes on Ukrainian territory,” the report said. “The invaders should understand that their expensive military equipment and ammunition are vulnerable everywhere — whether on the front lines, in temporarily occupied territories, or deep within their rear areas.”
Earlier, the Crimean Wind monitoring channel, citing satellite images, reported that drones attacked the Kirovske airbase in temporarily occupied Crimea on the night of June 28. The strike reportedly destroyed an ammunition depot and air defense systems.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that 10 drones were “destroyed” overnight and into the morning of June 28 over Russian-occupied Crimea.
The Kirovske airfield, located in eastern Crimea, is operated by the Chkalov Flight Test Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense (military unit 3865).
Several attacks on the Kirovske airbase were reported in 2024.
