Man Utd announce NINE players are leaving the club as ruthless summer overhaul begins.
Ruben Amorim’s side had a number of contract issues to deal with heading into the summer in both the first team and academy.
A number of those players, such as Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen, had already confirmed their departures, with veteran defender Evans also retiring from professional football.
But decisions have now been made over the futures of other players at the club.
Victor Lindelof will also be leaving United at the end of his contract, as well as young goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk.
The club are, however, in talks with third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton over a new deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
The following men’s senior and academy players have been released by United:
- Victor Lindelof
- Jonny Evans
- Christian Eriksen
- Hubert Graczyk
- Jack Kingdon
- Sam Murray
- Tom Myles
- James Nolan
- Tom Wooster
In addition to Heaton, young academy forward Ashton Missin, 18, has also been offered fresh terms.
Lindelof has been one of the current squad’s longest-serving players at United, having signed for the club back in 2017.
The latter part of his time at Old Trafford was blighted by injury issues, while he was slowly phased out of the team by Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim and only made 16 Premier League appearances.
Former academy graduate Evans, meanwhile, was brought back to the club in 2023 by Ten Hag after an initial nine-year spell between 2006 and 2015.
The Northern Ireland international was initially signed as a squad player but ended up making 23 Premier League appearances last term and was one of United’s most solid performers.
This season, the arrivals and returns of other players, and his own injury problems, restricted him to 13 appearances across all competitions.
And Eriksen arrived on a free transfer from Brentford in the summer of 2022.
He went on to make 107 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 18 assists.
Unlike Arsenal earlier in the week, United did not post their retained list for the women’s team alongside the men’s announcement, with the futures of their four out-of-contract senior players already decided well before the end of the season.
