Ethiopian Airlines Signs MoU with Safran for Boeing 777-9 Cabin Upgrades.

Ethiopian Airlines announced on Thursday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Safran, the world’s second-largest aircraft equipment manufacturer, for the supply of Z400 economy class seats.

The agreement covers eight Boeing 777-9 aircraft, though Ethiopian Airlines did not specify whether the seats are for future deliveries or an existing fleet. If for future deliveries, the expected timeline was not disclosed. The deal was announced at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.

In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines said the Z400 seats were selected for long-range operations, offering passengers “an enhanced in-flight entertainment experience with the latest-generation displays.” Financial terms were not disclosed.

Safran supplies critical aircraft systems, including landing gear, wheels, and brakes. The partnership aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ expansion strategy, which includes a new $5 billion international airport near Addis Ababa and a network spanning over 140 destinations.
