U.S. Dispatches Diplomats to Museveni, Tshisekedi, Kagame.

The United States Government has dispatched two top diplomats to the Great Lakes region to engage with the Heads of State over the security crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The newly appointed Senior Advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos will start on his assignment from DRC, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya according to a statement from the Department of State.

“The Department of State is pleased to announce the appointment of Massad Boulos as Senior Advisor for Africa,” said part of the statement.

Mr. Boulos also serves as Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs.

In his trip to the region, Boulos will be joined by Corina Sanders, the deputy assistant secretary of State for African Affairs.

“Senior Advisor Boulos and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Corina Sanders will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda starting April 3,” added the statement.

The duo is expected to meet Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Felix Tshisekedi of DRC, Paul Kagame of Rwanda and William Ruto of Kenya.

“During the trip, Senior Advisor Boulos and the team will meet with Heads of State and business leaders to advance efforts for durable peace in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and to promote U.S. private sector investment in the region,” concluded the statement.

Washington has been vocal against the aggression and occupation of major towns in the Eastern DRC by the M23 rebels with the alleged support from Rwanda’s army.
