Geraldine Ssali Back in Court as Corruption Trial Resumes.
Proceedings in the corruption case involving Geraldine Ssali, former permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, and her co-accused are set to resume at the Anti-Corruption Court.
Ssali, alongside lawyer Julius Kirya and lawmakers Michael Mawanda Muranga, Ignatius Wamakuyu Mudiimi, and Leonard Kavundira, are battling accusations of corruption stemming from a multi-billion shilling cooperative funding scheme.
Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga is expected to preside over the mention of the case, which had been put on hold pending the outcome of an appeal filed by co-defendant Paul Akamba.
Prosecutors contend that Ssali flagrantly abused her authority by unilaterally including Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society in the list of beneficiaries for war loss compensation. This decision, allegedly made without proper authorization, paved the way for the irregular disbursement of funds.
Furthermore, it is alleged that Ssali facilitated payments totaling 3.8 billion shillings to Kirya and Company Advocates, in contravention of established treasury guidelines.
The accused parties are also implicated in a broader conspiracy to defraud the government of 3.4 billion shillings earmarked for war loss compensation.
