Minister Mateke, also Kisoro District Woman MP was pronounced dead on arrival at Mengo hospital this morning where she was rushed for treatment following a heart attack in the wee hours of Saturday morning at her home in Kampala. She was 50 years.

In a heartfelt statement  also shared on her X formerly twitter account, Speaker Among described Ms. Mateke as a “humble and committed servant of the country” whose untimely death has left a void in the lives of many.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of Honorable Mateke’s passing,” Ms. Among said. “She was a dedicated leader who tirelessly worked for the betterment of our nation. Her contributions to Uganda’s development will never be forgotten.”

Ms. Among extended her sympathies to President Yoweri Museveni, Ms. Mateke’s family, relatives, friends, and the Kisoro community, who have lost a devoted champion. As the nation mourns the loss of this remarkable leader, Ms. Among’s tribute honors Ms. Mateke’s legacy and the impact she had on countless lives. May she rest in peace.

She also held a Master’s degree in Public Health from Bugema University and a Postgraduate diploma in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University.

Ms. Mateke began her career in business, managing her family’s timber production and transportation ventures. She later transitioned to public service, serving as Assistant Town Clerk of Kisoro Town Council.
