The Anti-Corruption court on Wednesday, 4th September, 2024 remanded Amina Mutesi, the Jinja principal education officer, to Luzira prison on charges of abuse of office.
Mutesi, who was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, joins two other government officials, Haruna Mulopa and Samuel Ngobi, who have been in custody since August 21, 2024, on similar charges.
According to the prosecution, on May 24, 2024, the officials allegedly instructed headteachers to use UPE capitation grants for unauthorized term two activities, in direct violation of UPE regulations.
Grade One magistrate Christopher Opit granted bail of Shs 3 million each to Mulopa and Ngobi on Wednesday, with the case adjourned to December 6, 2024. However, Mutesi was remanded to Luzira prison until September 5, 2024, to allow the prosecution time to verify her bail documents. She denied the charges, and Senior State Attorney Raymond Mugisa informed the court that investigations are still ongoing.
