Rangers have confirmed that Nigerian defender Leon Balogun has left the club after his contract with the club expired.
The 33-year-old joined Ibrox from Wigan in the summer of 2020, and was a member of Steven Gerrard’s Scottish Premier League-winning squad.
Balogun then signed a one-year contract extension with Ibrox, appearing in 65 games and scoring two goals.
It comes after the 33-year-old expressed a strong desire to sign a new contract with the club, stating that he had formed a solid bond with them.
“Rangers can today confirm that Leon Balogun and Andy Firth will exit the club following the expiration of their contracts,” the team wrote on social media.
“Everyone at Ibrox wishes Leon and Andy well for the next move in their career.”
Balogun was a key player for Rangers in the recent season, which saw them reach the Europa League final and win the Scottish Cup
