FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers 2022
Third Round, First Leg
Uganda vs South Africa
St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Friday, 3rd December 2021 4PM

Uganda U20 Women’s National Team head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi and skipper Fauzia Najjemba have expressed readiness as the team prepares to face South Africa on Friday at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The two indicated the team is in perfect shape to face South Africa and they are optimistic of a good result.

Kiyingi stated that he has tried to address the weaknesses and believes they have the right attitude towards Friday’s game.

“I believe we have had enough time to prepare and get ready for this game. We have tried to address our weaknesses and I’m confident we shall get a good result,” he said.

When asked about what he knows about the opponents, the gaffer indicated they are a good team.

”We faced them at COSAFA U17 Championship two years ago and we have tried to make analysis of the challenge us back then. I know they are a good side but we have the ability to overcome them.”

Captain Najjemba indicated that the failure to win CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship is now behind them and all focus has shifted to the game against South Africa.

“We were disappointed not to lift the CECAFA title but that is behind us. We have tried to work on our mindset, getting back to our best and all the focus is to make sure we win tomorrow.” She stated.

Najjemba who was the top scorer at CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship is confident the team will overcome South Africa.

The return leg will come in two weeks’ time and the winner on aggregate will progress to the fourth qualifying phase.

To reach this stage, Uganda eliminated Kenya 10-3 on aggregate.
