Defending champions Uganda managed to secure a point against Ethiopia in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Sunday in Kakamega, Kenya.
The Ethiopians dominated Uganda in the early stages of the game and it took only 23 minutes for Abubakar Sanni to hit the back of the net from a well taken rebound after teammate Dawa Dukele’s stike was denied by the crossbar.
Despite of getting two red cards in the last ten minutes of the game, awarded to Isaac Muleme and Timothy Awany, Uganda managed to turn the game round with an equalizer from striker Derrick Nsibambi after Ethiopia’s Timariam Shanko made a blander just four minutes to the final whistle.
Uganda’s tactician Moses Basena was forced to make an early change, introducing Milton Kalisa for center midfielder Sadam Juma in the 28th Minute of the game.
Ethiopians needed a win to have a chance for qualification to the Semi Finals.
A 1:1 draw helped Uganda qualify to the Semi-finals of the oldest tournament on the black continent.
