Violence erupts in Bangui, Central African republic

BANGUI, Central African Republic Fresh violence has erupted in the city of Bangui, Central African Republic, forcing the trauma unit at a major hospital to be filled to capacity, where ambulances transporting the wounded have often been delayed because of street battles and barricades. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Central African Red Cross (CRCA) are providing emergency services following the eruption of violence in Bangui’s PK5 district on April 8. “Our 34-bed trauma unit at Bangui’s Community Hospital is completely full. We have set up a close surveillance room and another casualty ward. They are full as well. We have two tents ready to be put up in case of need. They can accommodate at least another 20 patients.”” said Marcelle Baltzinger

KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo: The humanitarian situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has deteriorated dramatically over the past year due to a massive escalation of conflict and widespread insecurity. Extreme violence has spread to areas typically considered stable, such as the provinces of Kasai and Tanganyika. The situation has been recently compounded by deadly floods and an outbreak of Cholera, among multiple other health emergencies, while the IOM, the UN Migration Agency humanitarian appeal, released at the end of last year, remains vastly underfunded.
