Uganda assumes EAC Chair as President Museveni makes strong case for integration

Sunday, 21st May 2017   Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has assumed the Chairmanship of the East African Community (EAC) and strongly called for the integration of the East African Region. Speaking in Dar-es-Salaam yesterday at the 18th Ordinary Summit of the of the Heads of State of the EAC members countries – Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania- after assumed the EAC Chairperson from Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli, President Museveni made an impassioned plea for the case of regional integration premised on three pillars. “Integration is about three issues; prosperity, security and ‘Ubuntu’ (brotherhood)”, the President said.
