ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia The U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa conducted a three-day workshop on Countering Gender Based Violence (GBV) from May 14-16 to foster cooperation and coordination among Ethiopian and international stakeholders. The workshop included instruction on identifying GBV offenders, best practices in conducting forensic interviews of offenders, training for medical professionals in conducting evaluations of GBV survivors to assist successful investigations and prosecutions, and how the media, civil society and other partners can collaborate to promote culture change as it relates to GBV. NAIROBI, Kenya Senior Kenyan and European officials are  meeting in Mombasa where the flagship of the European Union's Atalanta operation, the ITS Carlos Margottini, is making a port visit. Kenya's National Assembly is represented by members of its Defence and Foreign Relations Committee, led by its chairman Hon. Katoo Ole Metito. The ITS Carlos Margottini, alongside the Spanish Warship ESPS Meteoro, is tackling piracy and armed robbery off the Somalian coast. European Union naval forces are also working with other organisations to strengthen maritime security and protect vulnerable shipping in the Horn of Africa and in the Western Indian Ocean. Thandi wines seals deal to export range of wines to China

PRETORIA, South AfricaIt was signed, sealed and soon to be delivered as Western Cape’s Thandi Wines secured a one-year contract with a Chinese distributor to export their range of premium wines to China. This momentous contract was agreed upon on the margins of the 19th SIAL China International Trade Fair for Food where twenty-three South African agro-processing companies are currently showcasing local products and services. The Managing Director of Thandi Wines, Mr Vernon Henn said that the contract value sits at more than R700 000. “We will commence the contract with a shipment of two containers that will be having more than 26 000 bottles. We will then follow that up with another two containers. Thereafter, the contract will be renewed on an annual basis,” said Henn.

This warning from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) comes following news of reports of a confirmed Ebola case in the provincial capital, Mbandaka, in north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). “Local volunteers and health workers are the community’s alarm system,” said Ben Adinoyi, IFRC Regional Head of Health and Care, who is currently based in Kinshasa. “They are our eyes and ears on the ground. GENEVA, Switzerland The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is temporarily suspending its refugee resettlement programme from Sudan in connection with two ongoing investigations launched in February and March by the organization’s independent Inspector General’s Office. A separate anti-fraud and integrity support mission is expected to be deployed shortly. “At present we are still dealing with allegations, based on reports that have come from refugees.
