UPDF Junior Staff College Graduates 86 Officers, Including Allied Students from Gabon.
Eighty-six officers, including four allied students from Gabon, have graduated from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Junior Staff College (JSC) in Jinja after completing a four-month Grade III Staff Course.
The graduation ceremony was officiated by Brig Gen James Kinalwa, the Joint Staff Human Resource Management officer in the UPDF. He described the occasion as a significant milestone in the UPDF’s ongoing commitment to developing skilled commanders and staff officers for a professional military force.
Brig Gen Kinalwa commended the graduates for their exceptional performance during the course. He highlighted that their assessments demonstrated the acquisition of critical knowledge and skills necessary for future responsibilities.
“I am certain that you are going to apply the knowledge you have acquired effectively and efficiently wherever you will be. Let this training guide you to success in your military career as officers,” Brig Gen Kinalwa said.He urged the officers to adopt a proactive approach to their roles, emphasizing competence, flexibility, and teamwork while cautioning against the “passenger” mindset.
Brig Gen Chris Ogwal, the Commandant of the Junior Staff College, congratulated the officers and stressed the importance of the values and principles instilled during the course.
“The skills you have honed here will be essential in shaping the future of our defence forces. May you continue to serve with pride and professionalism,” said Brig Gen Ogwal.He noted that this was intake 36/24-25, which included 86 officers, among them four allied students from Gabon, further underlining the college’s regional and international role in fostering military cooperation.
During the ceremony, several officers were recognized for their outstanding performance with Lt Col Nasser Faruk Mukiibi was awarded for his exceptional leadership skills and Major Demitri Jason Raivire, one of the allied students, was named the best fraternal student.
The event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including Maj Gen George Igumba, Commandant of Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka, Brig Gen (Rtd) Bernard Obola, the maiden Commandant Emeritus of JSC, Col Micheal Ssesanga, Commandant of the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, Col Katongole, Commandant of the School of Supplies and Transport, Col Alex Afayo Obbo, representing the Commandant of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability and Senior Superintendent of Prisons Deogracius Ogwapit, Regional Prisons Commander (RPC).
