Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Calls for Protests Against Parliament
Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has escalated tensions with Parliament by calling for mass protests against what he described as “the most corrupt institution in the country.”
In a message issued on Thursday morning, Gen. Muhoozi urged Ugandan patriots to demonstrate against Parliament on February 10, accusing lawmakers of enriching themselves at the expense of the people.
Muhoozi’s Call to Action
“I, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Son of Yoweri Museveni, request all Ugandan patriots to launch a mammoth protest against Parliament,” said Muhoozi.
“Parliament is the MOST CORRUPT institution in this country! All they do is enrich themselves and rob us!” he added.
“The demonstration will be on the 10th of February! All power belongs to Almighty God! God dwells amongst our people. Let us teach them what people power means! God bless Uganda!!”
The statement comes after Gen. Muhoozi rejected a parliamentary summons to address accusations of threatening opposition leaders Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) and Dr. Kizza Besigye on Twitter.
The Defence and Internal Affairs Committee had demanded his presence to clarify his controversial tweets, including threats to execute the two former presidential candidates.
An official close to Muhoozi said the MPs’ insistence on summoning the CDF over his Tweets “demonstrates how idle the lawmakers are; instead of focusing on issues that affect the common man”
The source added: “Gen Muhoozi is too busy for theatrics in Parliament. How are his posts on X related to UPDF’s budget?”
Gen Muhoozi has been on an official trip to Algeria where he held military talks with his counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of Algeria’s People’s National Army.
The two military leaders discussed the upcoming signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UPDF and the Algerian military. This MoU aims to enhance cooperation and bilateral ties between the two nations’ militaries.
As part of his visit, Gen Kainerugaba also visited the Algerian Navy and Air Force headquarters, where he was received by the commanders of the respective multinational branches. He was briefed on their capabilities and explored potential areas of cooperation.
Muhoozi returned to Uganda on Wednesday evening.
