CAF Champions league and Confederation Cup: Sudanese Clubs disqualified

The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the exclusion Sudanese Clubs from the continent biggest 2017 Tournaments of CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The Federation of International Football Associations took action following Sudanese government’s taking over the authorities of Sudanese Football Association.

The African Football governing body confirmed the decision on its official website on Friday 7th July 2017.

Accordingly, the CAF’s statement is specified as below.

“The Sudanese clubs participating in the CAF Interclub competitions have been disqualified following the decision by the Bureau of the FIFA Council to suspend the Sudan Football Association (SFA).
The decision was contained in a letter dated 6 July 2017 and signed by FIFA Secretary General ,Fatma                               Samoura.
In accordance with Article 13 of the FIFA Statutes, the SFA loses all its membership rights, and its representative and club teams are no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted.
In line with the decision, the three Sudanese clubs, El Hilal, El Merreikh (Total CAF Champions League) and Al Hilal Obeid (Total CAF Confederation Cup) are disqualified from the two competitions.”

The events have reached to the climax of group stage games with the last games to be played at the end of this week.

Sudanese El Merreik was to tussel out with Tunisia’s Etoel Du Sahel in group A, Merreik had a chance to qualify standing in second place with seven points only two behind Sahel the table leaders.

In the same vein, Al Hilal Obeid had already qualified to the quarter finals of CAF Confederation Cup after leading group with ten points before the last match since the Club in third place Recreativo De Libolo could not manage the gap of six points behind Hilal.

The third Sudanese team had no chance to qualify from group A of the CAF Champions League having drawn four in five group fixtures and stand at the bottom of the group.

However the rest of CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup last group fixtures  will stand accordingly.

The qualification format for the quarter finals is also explained

In case of equality of points between two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be using the following criteria as per the order listed below:

The greatest number of points obtained in the matches between the concerned teams concerned.

The best goal difference in the matches between the concerned teams.

The greatest number of scored goals in the away matches between the concerned teams.

The goal difference from all the matches played in the group.

The greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

A draw will be conducted by the Inter clubs Committee.
