The confederation of African Football (CAF) selected Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango for the number one goalkeeper among the best performed 11 players during the opening matches of CAF AFCON 2019 qualifier fixtures between 9th and 11th June 2017.
Onyango made several vital saves for the Uganda cranes in the opening match in group L against Cape Verde away in Praia, keeping a clean sheet while the Cranes emerged victorious with a 1:0 result.
Despite of some saves by South Africa’s Itumelange Khune during their 2:0 win against Nigeria away from home, Uganda Cranes victory lied in the hands of Onyango forcing more than three vital save to give his country three point in the Group L AFCON 2019 qualifiers encounter in Praia.
Unfortunately, none of the South African players made it to the best 11 despite of dominating Nigeria in their opening fixture away in Nigeria.
CAF selected Onyango Denis (Uganda), John Boye (Ghana), Ali Maudal (Tunisia), Pajlun Voavy (Seychelles) Betrand Traore (Burkna Faso), Moussa Sow (Senegal), Naby Keita (Guinea), Seidou Dumbia (Ivory Coast) Knowledge Musona (Zimbabwe), and Congolese Cedric Bkambu.
