Bird flu cases in South Korea rise to 29.

New highly pathogenic bird flu case detected at poultry farm in central region of country.

South Korea reported a new case of the highly pathogenic bird flu in the central part of the country on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 29.

The new case was discovered at a poultry farm in North Chungcheong Province, according to the Yonhap news agency.

Around 32 duck farms inside the quarantine zone of the infected poultry farm are also under watch to keep the bird flu under control.

Separately, a US citizen died from bird flu, according to the Louisiana Department of Health on Jan. 6, after contracting the virus from a backyard flock and wild birds, marking the country’s first bird flu-related human death.
